Our Land: Villages, Nature and Culture in Maremma

Campo al Crognolo lies in the municipality of Roccastrada, in the hamlet of Sassofortino, 35 minutes from the beautiful Maremma coast with Castiglione della Pescaia, Follonica to the north and the Argentario to the south.

The local area surrounding the farmhouse is part of the most authentic Maremma, between the Metalliferous Hills and the plain. Close by is the well-known Montemassi Castle, a fortress of the Aldobrandeschi family since medieval times and depicted in Simone Martini’s famous painting dedicated to Guidoriccio, now on display in Siena’s Palazzo Pubblico. Along with the charming villages of Roccatederighi and Sassofortino, known for their huge rocks, the area is well worth a visit to see Massa Marittima, a medieval town rich in history and artistic beauty, and then, heading north, to Montieri and Monterondo Marittimo. The heart of the province is the City of Grosseto with its splendid San Lorenzo Cathedral, museums and city walls that surround the historical centre with the Senese fortress and ramparts. Heading south, you will find the Uccellina Regional Park with Marina di Alberese beach, followed by Argentario.
